Before we jump into the lesson content, we’d first like to quickly go through some of the boring bits about what Applied Maths is, what A.M. Online provides, and how to use this website.

What is Applied Maths?

In a maths lesson, it is quite common, and understandable, for a student to think, “Wait, why do I have to learn this?! I’m never going to use it!” 

As its name suggests, the subject of Applied Maths exists to answer that sensible question. Rather than discussing seemingly random mathematical concepts, we apply such concepts to real-life situations in this subject, thereby making Applied Maths far more interesting and enjoyable!

Why should I study Applied Maths?

In addition to Applied Maths being a fascinating subject to learn about, there are many other reasons as to why we highly recommend students take this subject, some of which are discussed below.

1) Points!

Applied Maths consistently has one of the highest average grades of any Leaving Cert subject.

There are many reasons for this, one being that there is a large overlap between Applied Maths and Leaving Cert Maths. As such, Applied Maths is not so much about learning new concepts but instead about applying already known concepts to tackle real-life problems.

Due to this overlap, Applied Maths students also obtain a deeper understanding of Leaving Cert Maths, thereby also increasing their likelihood of getting more bonus points in their maths exam!
